  • Wednesday, August 2nd - Blues On The Beach  Wednesday may be hump day in the workaday world, but July Wednesdays on Block Island mean winding down your day with live blues along the beach. Bring a beach chair or blanket and dance the sand off (or simply chill if you’re so inclined) to favorite Block Island and New England musicians. The Silks will be kicking off the concert series on July 5th. The music starts right around 6pm—after the lifeguards have left their posts, early enough for young kids to enjoy, and early enough to head out for dinner after. This year’s dates are July 5th, July 19th, August 2nd, August 16th, and August 23rd. Oh, and more good news. Like Block Island sunshine and gentle breezes, Blues on the Block is absolutely free. Just another reason to love this island.

  • Wednesday, August 2nd -  Farmers Market at Legion Park – Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9am – 11:30am. With its many fruits and veggies, artisan cheese spreads, salsas, shellfish and more, the Market is a veritable festival for foodies. But wait, there’s more. Not only are there plenty of edibles to delight your taste buds, there are also arts and crafts, music, kids, dogs and a laid-back community atmosphere that makes you smile just being there. Rain or shine, the Market is held every Wednesday and Saturday morning at Legion Park from June 10th through the first weekend in October.

  • Wednesday, August 2nd - Block Island Ghost Tours' New Harbor Walking Tour, has been renamed to the New Harbor Ghost Tour. From 7pm-8:15pm, our Ghost Host (tour guide) will lead you on a walk around the New Harbor area. We learned a lot about some of the most devastating shipwrecks and less welcome visitors. They physically left long ago, but what of them remains? Did you know a group of real-life vampires may have used the island as a meeting place? The history of Block Island has always included those who travel by water. We highly recommend this tour to all of our Island boater's and anyone else looking to hear some of Block Island's haunted history. Every tour includes a free flashlight, an "I Survived" sticker, and a $5 discount on any of our t-shirts. Call 401-477-2979 or email blockislandghosttours@gmail.com to book private group tours.

  • Saturday, August 5th - The Mary D. Ball - From beaching to boating, hiking to biking, there are tons of ways to have a ball on Block Island. But there’s one Ball (note the capital B) that outshines them all for its festive family-friendly atmosphere and its importance to local islanders. It’s the annual Mary D. Ball, the premier fundraiser for the Mary D. Fund, started by Block Island’s charitable force of nature Mary Donnelly, Block Island nurse for more than 50 years until she retired in 2013 at age 86. She hasn’t retired from helping year-round Islanders struggling with financial hardship, though. So, as Mary would say, “dress to have a ball,” (we’ve seen everything from tuxedos to Bermuda shorts) and come to The Sullivan House on Sunday, August 5th at 5-9 pm. You’ll enjoy live entertainment, great food and drinks and a stunning view overlooking the ocean and New Harbor. It’s a great way to honor Mary, support the cause and rub elbows with locals and visitors alike. Tickets start at $100.
