  • Tuesday, July 4th - Annual July 4th Parade - We can’t guarantee 76 trombones or 110 cornets, but if you love the traditions of a simpler time, don’t miss the annual Block Island July 4 parade, starting at 11am from Veterans Park, just south of Great Salt Pond. Come early and take your place along the parade route so you can watch the floats, bands, clowns, and kids marching in formation across the island. Our theme for this year is "Your Favorite American Hero" and we invite everyone to join the festivities, either by participating in the parade or lining up along the route to watch the show. Local businesses, organizations, families, or individuals are welcome to sign up early and be a part of our celebration by filling out our participant form. Arrive at The Oar with your float on July 4th at 10 a.m. to secure your spot in the lineup. The parade route runs along West Side Road, starting at The Oar and ending at the roundabout at the statue of Rebecca, passing through Ocean Avenue, Dodge Street, and Water Street. A small committee will judge the parade and award prizes for grand prize, first place, second place, and honorable mention in the categories of business or organization, and family or individual. • Wednesday, July 5th - Blues On The Beach - Wednesday may be hump day in the workaday world, but July Wednesdays on Block Island mean winding down your day with live blues along the beach. Bring a beach chair or blanket and dance the sand off (or simply chill if you’re so inclined) to favorite Block Island and New England musicians. The Silks will be kicking off the concert series on July 5th. The music starts right around 6pm—after the lifeguards have left their posts, early enough for young kids to enjoy, and early enough to head out for dinner after. This year's dates are July 5th, July 19th, August 2nd, August 16th, and August 23rd. Oh, and more good news. Like Block Island sunshine and gentle breezes, Blues on the Block is absolutely free. Just another reason to love this island.
