Solviken Preserve
The Block Island Conservancy is dedicated to preserving the natural spaces of Block Island and the Solviken Preserve is a perfect example. It isn’t large but it’s environmentally sensitive, so the Conservancy partnered with the Block Island Land Trust in order to acquire it in 2012. In the 1950sand early 1960s, the Solviken Restaurant stood here, and for many years prior, the building housed the Negus family and their blacksmith shop. Today, it’s a great place for a picnic including refillable water stations, with a nice view of ponds off the back side and the ocean from the front.
