Black Friday has become a bit stressful over on the mainland, with stampeding crowds and all-night sales, so why not start your shopping with an event that’s decidedly more low-key: Block Island’s 28th Annual Holiday Shopping Stroll?
The Shopping Stroll starts the Block Island holiday season, with the town sporting festive decorations including the now-famous Lobster Pot Tree, and local retailers offering incredible sales beginning at 10 AM Friday. You also have a chance to win raffle prizes; you pick up an entry form at the Chamber of Commerce office at the ferry landing any time between 10 and 3 on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, then have each participating store add their stamp as you stroll around to see them all. (Shop days and hours may vary, so make sure to check! Forms that are returned to the Chamber are eligible for a raffle drawing held at 3:30 PM on Sunday the 26th. It’s like window shopping with a real mission. )
If you want a bit more exercise than just strolling, make time for the 13th Annual 5K Turkey Trot, which begins at the Fred Benson Town Beach on Saturday the 25th (You can walk or run; registration is day of the race, and $30 fee includes a t-shirt, while they last.) Or you can register online at http://www.active.com/
