If you head over to the Block Island Free Library for their Book, Bake & Bloom Sale on Saturday, May 25, don’t expect a quiet and studious atmosphere. “It’s a crazy day,” say folks who have been to previous BBB events. But in a good way. And it all benefits programs that take place at the library all year long.
From 9 am to 1 pm, the place is abuzz with islanders and visitors looking for bargains on the book tables and blossoms on the plants outside. And who can walk past all those decadent cakes, pies, cupcakes and cookies without giving in to temptation? All those aromas of cinnamon and chocolate making you hungry? Take a break at the café for light fare like soup and sandwiches.
As in most small towns, the library is a year-round center of culture and entertainment with mahjong, cribbage, chess, crafts, knitting, book discussions, story times, even kids’ yoga classes. And this is your chance to support it all.
