Wednesday may be hump day in the workaday world, but July Wednesdays on Block Island mean winding down your day with live blues along the beach. Bring a beach chair or blanket and dance the sand off (or simply chill if you’re so inclined) to favorite Block Island and New England musicians. Otis and the Hurricanes will be kicking off the concert series on July 11. Though they hail from Connecticut, these boys will make the beach sound like just this side of the French Quarter with their down home blend of New Orleans R&B and Delta-style blues.
The music starts right around 6pm—after the lifeguards have left their posts, early enough for young kids to enjoy, and early enough to head out for dinner after. In case of rain, the location changes from beachside to Captain Nick’s at 34 Ocean Avenue. This year's dates are July 11, July 25, August 1 and August 15.
Oh, and more good news. Like Block Island sunshine and gentle breezes, Blues on the Block is absolutely free. Just another reason to love this island.
