A lot of people come to Block Island to lie out on the beach, or take in the view from a lounge chair on their back deck. But if getting on your feet isn’t too much to ask, there’s now a new something that makes doing so more rewarding.
June 12 and 13, Block Island is introducing its first-ever Walking Festival.
By signing up and paying a modest registration fee(40$), you can join in on three guided walks per day over the two day period – discovering the over 47% of the island that’s reserved for nature. There will also be a welcome reception where all registered participants can meet up, pick up materials and hear about the history and topography of the island.
Even better, the mid-week Walking Festival is designed to overlap with both Block Island Restaurant Week, which takes place June 10-16, and the Block Island Music Fest, which begins June 12 and lasts through the next weekend. Not only does this mean discounts on hotels (and things like bike and kayaks, if you’re so inclined,) but post-walk, you can reward yourself with dinner, or enjoy great music over a beer at Captain Nick’s. And if you want to do more wandering, Block Island’s glass floats will be out and ready to be discovered.
Registration is online only at Active.com. More details will be available soon, with walk descriptions coming in April.
